I checked with IV core and few attorneys regarding this issue. You will need the consent of the employer since we are dealing with I-140 petition. Please speak to your HR and try convincing them to support you. We are not asking USCIS to expedite our cases. All we are asking is follow the FIFO and process cases in an orderly manner.
Please do not be afraid of approaching your HR for help.
You are working for the company and helping the company grow and HR should support you in immigration matters.
Support from employers will go a long way in making your cases strong, whether it is writing to USCIS or lawmakers.

I have been on a monthly contributions program that contributes every month to IV since JAN 2007. If this effort requires the money now, is there a way I can divert the monthly to this effort for the next 3 months. Or should I cancel my monthly contribution and just donate a lump sum for this effort?

So what are trying to prove ? Generally i dont respond but this just shows that you have a lot of time. Why dampen people's spirits by such post or why try to say that whatever IV has done is a waste. That is what i get from what you have posted. If you are cynical, keep it to your own self, dont start such negative threads. Dont know you and this is not a personal attack but think twice before you create such posts, because they are disheartening for many (including me) who are so frustrated that they can believe any thing negative. Chill out and let us enjoy the moment why we have it, if things change over the period, we are fighters, we will survive but dont add to our problems by your predictions and logic (which might be right to start with but do we tell cancer patients that they are going to die on such and such date).

Not just priority date, but also receipt date.
My priority date has been current for a year now, but are they processing it? No, because my receipt date is 08/28/2006 and they are only doing 08/07/2006 now (after going back one month in Texas).
Thats right....and currently they have at most 400 for each category to give from July 2nd...and might have already used them for adjudicating old PD's. So, only couple of hundred first comers on July 2nd may benefit if processed based on RD and after that...its a big messy backlog center. They will processed based on PD ONLY.

Here is my point. I spend several hours 3-4 hours at least every day looking through the forum posts hoping to find ways i can contribute to efforts. There are several ideas that are generated in the forum. But cannot find out who is leading it. All i am saying is if we can have a listing of initiatives with some names associated. So i can contribute to the ones that i can support. I am not sure if i am asking for too much here. I am not a IT guy. I do not know what it takes to post it in the front page.

By the way, let me clarify that I have nothing against 2006 PD who got approved last month...but my frustration is against USCIS system who does not follow FIFO. Sorry if I have hurt someone's feelings.
This is really frustrating...moving EB2-I cut-off dates to Aug 2006, approving large number of 2006 PD cases and leaving 2003 - 2005 cases aside.

I can't port to EB2, as my education is combinational (Diploma + AMIE), not 4-year single degree.

Pappu excellent post full of true facts. Being smart in my opinion means being knowledgeable and aware of the current situation at any given point of time rather than being ignorant and indifferent. Most of the time doing some basic research can lead an individual to the right option that is legally consistent and correct, it�s really never too late to correct course. Yes there will be street smart people (Sub labor being one example) who will game the system but besides other things let�s accept that they know how things work. Life is about learning and then What Next? It�s really about continuous improvement and trying to move in the right direction. Not having the desired end result is fine but not doing anything or not trying is bad. Very nice and motivating stories from some of the veteran�s you give us the motivation to hang on. OP you seem to have started a nice discussion.

I just did the math.
I am sure most of you have assets worth of at least $150,000. So if 300,000 are stuck in the backlog. This would mean if these guys leave this country, then that would be $45 trillion loss for USA.
Guys is there a way to get some media publicity of the possible loss of $45 trillion for USA due to US Immigration mess??

Can the members in Texas and others call on Sen. Cornyn's office and ask him to support the bill. I just called their office, and the staff says that he has no statement from the senator, and therefore has no position as of yet. I asked him about the above report, and all he offered was "no comments"
Hope IV members step up their efforts in calling the list of Senators and post their feedback on this forum. We can learn from each others feedback and bring more pressure on these legislators.

US won't get anything if they issue GCs to us. Remember they have to tackle unemployment in US if they issue GCs to every H1/L1. It's the gimmick just like any other tricks that US paly around the world. They lure best talent to US with GCs etc etc but what they really need is Taxes (and ofcourse some talent) from us which they are anyway getting.

Just a question. Why would you file jointly if your wife doesn't work (i.e. doesn't have SSN)?

IRS made it mandatory to use SSN because illegal immigrants use ITIN to file taxes. This affected the legal immigrants also where ITIN is used in case of dependants who dont have work visa. If you are not legally eligible to work, you dont get SSN.
The two options left for legal immigrants are -
File separate returns one for self with ssn and another for wife using ITIN and calim one stimulus rebate for 600$
but then you get single standard deduction and your AGI is more that affects your federal and state tax.
If you do the math, its better to file a joint return and forego the stimulus rebate.
There is a catch too, if wife later gets EAD and thus SSN, you can ammend your tax return and claim the stimuls rebate
